So we believe we have a slight situation… Last week we had some glorious sunny days. Beautiful blue skies and really warm sunshine. This started exactly 7 days ago and hasn’t let up yet. The www.snow-forecast.com report for Avoriaz has been showing the below everyday.

This season we have been watching this report, and to be honest, it hasn’t really got it right at all, so when we saw this last week, we didn’t really give it much time. Then the sun continued, and everyday we have woken to beautiful blue skies (see picture below) and then hot sunny days.

And it seems that this could now be the norm. It has had some interesting effects on the snow in the mountains, which now seems to be rapidly disappearing. The main photo above is of Avoriaz where they have had to cut a ledge into the snow with piste-bashers to catch the wall of snow sliding off the side of the mountain. A big slow moving wave of snow stripping back to the rock and grass beneath it. Now don’t get me wrong, the sunshine is glorious, the slushy conditions are great for snowboarding and nothing is better than a ice cold beer, in the sun, in the middle of the mountains. But it would be nice for a little bit more powder before we finish our season? Please??

Would I be correct in assuming your top picture is taken from about flat 308 of Vivace?

Actually checked from chairlift this morning and I suppose it could have been from the piste outside Allegro.
The reason I asked was that I was amazed to see a picture in a blog that is almost identical to the view I get when I open my curtains most of the winter.
I’d wish you guys a good life – but it looks to me like you are already having one.
🙂 we are just up the Route de Avoriaz from the Prodain round about… We think it could be the best view in the world, so glad other people are enjoying it too. I am truly spoilt, just a short doorstep between me and the piste – first tracks for 30mins most mornings.
I tried the dark side 20 years ago, but prefer 2 planks.
