Just in case you were wondering, our dear Frank (the sourdough starter – 2 yrs old in June) is loving life in France. He lives on our balcony in the near zero temperatures and is making lovely loaves nearly every other day. We were thinking of putting him into ski school, but we need to wait until he is three (the French rule for natural yeast based products). The new “River Cottage Handbook – Bread” (thanks Tim, Michelle, Harrison and Fletcher) is making some new amazing breads. We have tried many different types now, and the new sourdough recipe by Daniel Stevens is very, very good. Our new housemate Lyle is very excited to take on a French classic lardon loaf (bread with bacon bits in it) and the Tiger loaf (British supermarket special), so we have some more baking fun to be had…
